Field Recordings workshop with Jilliene Sellner

Jilliene Sellner is a Canadian sound artist and PhD researcher (Goldsmiths) currently based in the UK. Meet Jilliene at St Mary in the Castle cafe for sonic explorations, either inside or outside, weather dependent.

Sellner explains ‘How we listen determines what we hear - in this very short workshop we will activate our deep listening abilities while exploring the local sonic environment through our mobile phones. Recordings will be collected after the session and compiled into a composition by Sellner’.

All that is required is a mobile phone with a sound/voice recording app (Voice Memos on iphone or Voice Recorder on Android, for example) and headphones and your imagination...

15 participants (children are welcome with their parents) will be guided by Johanna to record sounds on their phones (vocal effects, sound effects etc) and they will then be edited into a piece with everyone's input.

Digital Sound Workshop with Cutlasses

This workshop provides an introduction to using small and relatively cheap microcontrollers to create digital sound. IMPORTANT/PLEASE NOTE: Each participant will need to bring along their own laptop capable of running the Arduino environment (this is free and will run on macOS, Windows and Linux)

Tim Exile - Music and the Doing revolution + Endlesss workshop

Tim Exile will be giving a talk called ‘Music and the Doing revolution’, followed by an Endlesss workshop and tutorial.

IMPORTANT - in order to use Endlesss and to make full use of this workshop, you will need to have an iPhone or iPad with the Beta version of the app installed and wired headphones.

PLEASE NOTE - This talk & workshop will be strictly limited to 20 people only. Please email to secure your place.

Sonics will then invite you to join a ‘Thee Sonics’ live jam, allowing you to install the Endlesss app and practice before we meet Tim.
